The Educational Life of Berean Baptist Church

Rom 12:2
...be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Education is an important part of our lives together at Berean.

Although the number of children attending Sunday school over the
years has waxed and waned, still we take seriously the task of instructing
our children in the faith. We have held teacher training
events to better prepare our educational leaders. We have tried a
VBS program to reach out to area children and enrich the learning of
regular Sunday school members. Teacher spend a great deal of time
preparing lessons and the children learn stories, songs and bible
verses and engage in games and activities that allow them to learn
the good news of Jesus.

The adult program is a fairly new one and since the arrival of
Pastor Darin the attendance has grown. Adults also participate in
seasonal studies at Lent and Advent which we print and send home
for people to use. All new members, both teens and adult enter into
a six week educational program with the pastor. We have
experimented with other special educational experiences such as;
Christian parenting, parenting support, relationship retreat, prayer
group, seekers class and most recently, Intro to the Bible.

Worship and sermons are another avenue of learning at BBC.
We have been blessed by good preachers and many report how
meaningful the sermons of Rev's Bichan, Holden and Collins were
and are.

Still, education is most often done not in formal programs, but
through the relationships that grow in the church. This is why the
mentoring program is a new addition to the Berean experience.
When we join committees or volunteer to help with various projects
and ministries we are all learning how it is that a disciple of Christ
acts in the world. It is the care and attention we pay to our
friendships that allows us to grow more and more in the likeness of
Christ.
