The Life of Outreach at Berean Baptist Church: A Beacon of Hope

'I've never seen an outreach committee do the things this
church does.'

Berean Baptist Church is a 'Beacon of Hope' and a resource to
the community. We are committed as a body to the 'Great Commission,'
to spread the gospel everywhere to everyone. We not only tell
the message of salvation, but participate in salvation as agents of compassion
and care in our community. Salvation isn't just something we
accept, it is something we create and share with the power and guidance
of the Holy Spirit. We believe in salvation not just of the soul,
but of the whole person, here and now and we have learned this from
Matt 25: 34-36, in which Jesus teaches, 'Come, you who are blessed by
my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since
the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something
to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a
stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I
was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit
me.'

We carry out this commandment through our food pantry, Hygiene pantry, oil
assistance program, Summer Lunch Program, holiday basket distribution, free clothes closet,
providing dental exams and mammograms for area families, parenting
classes, and providing personal hygiene items for children.

We also participate in Habitat for Humanity, a Craft Circle at Ashton court,
support of the Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center and have
sponsored community programs in schools and with other local
churches to educate and support families in the endeavor to keep their
children safe from on-line predators, date-rape and bullying.

We started God's Garden to provide fresh produce to local families. We
provide financial assistance for members in the areas of prescription
medication, rent, and utilities.

'BBC doesn't just help church members and their families
and friends, but they help the whole community.

'One Sunday a church member asked for support for a family that
needed help; cooking dinners, chores, laundry, kids. People
were just calling out... sign me up for whatever you need...'

'We opened the clothes closet for a boy with no clothes, only
a shirt and sandals that didn't fit...they were too small. We
helped him. I was a connection to God for that little boy.'
We are for the people [of Burrillville]'
