Christmas Eve Candle-light Service:  A Confrontational God

(not an actual photo of Berean)

Lk 2:8-9

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

Mary is asked to forgo all her plans of a simple life when she is called to carry the Christ child.  Joseph must give up all his dreams of a quiet marriage to shepherd away his wife and child from a violent King.  The Magi must find a new way home.  Throughout the story of Jesus' birth God confronts us; God confronts both that which is wrong with the world, the violence, oppression and cruelty, but God also confronts those who wish for quiet, peace, solitude, and challenges them to take up a cause, the Kingdom of God.
