Food Closet

The Burrillville Community is served by a number of larger local food closets, and yet Burrillville still has many hungry families.  Our Food Closet is primarily for emergency situations, which means, families who cannot wait for another closet to provide them with food.  Volunteers are needed to help with fund raising, collection of food for the closet, as wells as stocking shelves.

Summer Lunch Program

Many families will be nutritionally challenged during the summer months when their children do not receive meals at school.  BBC cannot feed everyone, but we do work with local service agencies so as to provide food for breakfast and lunch for a few families in our area.  This project requires volunteer assistance in shopping and packaging the various goods we collect for these families.  In an effort to establish relationships with the families we serve, we also include backpacks and school supplies for the children and sponsor a Christmas Party for the families.

Coat's of Color

Located in the basement of our church is a clothing co-op. Clothes clean and in good repair are collected and stored for people in need.  Twice monthly we open the church on Saturday mornings for people to look for clothing free of charge.  This is especially important for serving foster families in our area.  We can always use volunteers to staff the closet, keeping clothes folded and in their proper place and offering support and assistance to the families who visit us.

 Ashton Court Craft Group

Located behind the Berean Baptist Church is Ashton Court a housing facility for the elderly.  Once a week a group meets at the A.C to create blankets and quilts, hats and mittens for local families in need.

 Hygiene Closet

This is the ministry that Berean has undertaken in cooperation with other local food closets.  Berean became aware of the fact that many families not only struggle with bills and food, but also with affording personal hygiene products.  These products can be expensive and local food banks cannot keep them in stock regularly.  So Berean has written grants and started hygiene product drives to provide to families through local closets.  We need volunteers for fund-raising, to staff drives and collect the products for storage and distribution.

Gifts for the Manger

In the holiday season many families struggle to provide the basics for their families.  Berean works closely with other community agencies to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for families in need.  With the troubled economy this year we expect many more families to need our support.  We need volunteers to help with food drives for this specific ministry, as well as to pack food boxes and deliver them to families in need.

 Oil Program

Heating Oil is a major expense to every family.  Many families simply cannot afford this expense.  Berean actively writes grants and holds fund-raisers to build a 'Heating Oil Fund' to provide 100 gallons of oil to families in dire need of heating in the winter months.  This year we are also looking to supplement this ministry with blanket distribution as well as electric heaters.  We need volunteers for fund-raising as well as blanket and heater storage and distribution.

 3B's

The 3B's is a women's fellowship ministry of Berean.  They support and fellowship to one another and sponsor a number of fund-raising events such as breakfasts and dinners. The proceeds of these fund-raisers go to worthy projects and the 3B's often work in tandem with the Outreach Committee to provide Food and gifts for the 'Gifts for the Manger' program.  3B's also support other local area ministries and send children to summer camp.  The 3B's meet on the third Saturday of the Month and they welcome your visit and participation.
